Our Community
Arcon believes that supporting the communities in which it operates and encouraging its employees to participate in events, organizations and initiatives in the communities in which they live, creates a better world. We celebrate the diversity of the initiatives that our employees support.
The variety of organizations, events and activities that Arcon & its employees are involved with are a reflection of the spectrum of worthy causes that surround us. Some of these causes are national in scope but many are local, some have existed for years and others are just spreading their wings, some are related to the environment, others benefit youth, and some focus on the well-being of our animal friends. Whether participation is through a donation of time or money, the goal is the same; improve the quality of life for others.
Environment
Arcon actively encourages its employees and suppliers to review and decrease their environmental footprint both at work and at home.
In 2024 we began purchasing carbon offsets equal to the amount of green house gas (GHG) emissions that we generate through vehicle travel on behalf of our clients. These offsets support third-party verified Canadian GHG reduction projects.
In addition to directly mitigating the environmental impact of our client-related travel, our Civil & Structural engineering team is keenly aware of the amount of materials that find their way to landfill during construction and reconstruction projects. Our engineers work with our reconstruction partners to reduce waste wherever it is safe and practical to do so.
Since 2020, Arcon has operated with a hybrid work environment which reduces the amount of travel that our employees need to undertake on a daily basis. This change enabled us to reduce our physical footprint and implement motion-activated lighting in areas of our office that are not in regular use.
With purchasing guidelines that promote ‘buying green’, a corporate blue bin program and a “lights out when you’re out” initiative that reminds employees to turn off lights in rooms that are not in use, Arcon is doing its part. Employees of Arcon regularly participate in Community Clean-Up days in the communities in which they live.
Education
Arcon has been a proud supporter of the insurance business programs at a number of Ontario colleges as a bursary sponsor and through educational presentations. We believe that educating tomorrow’s claims adjusters, underwriters and brokers about the work of forensic engineers will have far-reaching benefits for consumers.
